A secure premises containing accommodation
suitable for mainframe computer equipment and telecommunications
systems, together with personnel involved at all levels,
in operating that equipment and process operations associated
with it, such as: system analysing, programming, help
desk, operations control, printing/product production,
goods inwards and despatch.
A mix according to whether occupancy is human - stationary
or active, or whether it is equipment – attended or
unattended.
In this case we are constructing a premises to contain
a small business community. The analogy with an engine
is clear and we need to explore the requirements of
each department and its activity to decide how all
will best work together. The law of Pareto –
that the smallest part can have a maximum effect on
the whole, sits well in these considerations.
We also have to accommodate business expansion
and consider the resilience of the facility.
We need to understand the way the
business is run, what it produces and whom it sells
it to, also who and what their expectations are.
We move to the build design once the business
activity flow and related space diagrams have been established.
In the build, the three main considerations are: security,
environment and communication.
These are constituents of each and every element involved
in the facility construction. Needless to say, technology
plays an important role in each and we aim to keep up with
its advances.
The premises would usually contain some or all of the following
accommodation.
Some of the work space details are provided on this
