Designing a suitable environment for hi-technology manufacturing
provides us with the challenge of satisfying the requirements
of both humans and machines.
In computer room design we only have to bother with
the requirements of the equipment it houses, humans
visit, but don’t stay too long. With the hi-tech
manufacturing, we need to also look after the human
beings.
This usually means that we need to increase temperatures
and inject more fresh air – above that we usually
inject into a computer room to maintain positive pressure.
Also, the manufacturing area may not be entirely clean
and enclosed. If it is connected to associated stores
and dispatch areas, we need to compensate for additional
temperature and air gains/losses.
No two designs are the same as hi-tech manufacturing
is a field where temperature, lighting and air quality
requirements vary widely according to process and the
associated facilities allied to it.
