Mezzanine floors on their own
are best procured from a number of specialist contractors.
However CCS have found that there are many other items
that need taking into consideration before the mezzanine
is structurally designed by the specialist (and checked
by a structural engineer). These items relate to the
activities intended both on the proposed floor and
off it.
The types of equipment intended to
be placed on the floor will determine the vibration
tolerance and thus the floor rigidity, as will intended
traffic activities beneath. The mechanical services
associated, will determine the clear headroom, the
spacing of columns and what to do about the column
load spread base plates.
An idea of mechanical, and to a lesser
degree, electrical services, design is necessary before
headroom's beneath and above the floor can be determined.
Whilst staircases and conveyors are
straightforward items to purchase, their location
to satisfy the logistics of the activities above and
beneath the floor, whilst satisfying the Building
Regulations, needs to be determined – remembering
that the fire authority is committed to their location
for escape purposes – and will not yield!
CCS have the experience to
be able to ensure all these items are covered and
that all relevant authorities – Building Regulation,
HSE, Landlord, and any others, are satisfied.
