Control Room/Operators’ Bridge

Description
The terminology refers to rooms from which the other machine rooms within a computer suite or centre are monitored and controlled and from which computer operators work.
Whilst these rooms are usually constructed within or adjacent to the facility to which they relate, they can also be remote and may control more than one.

The environmental difference between them and the rooms they control relate to the occupants – people. Rather than electronic equipment, we therefore need to consider human – centric ergonomics, lighting, vision, comfort and security, in a space that is usually manned on a 24/7 basis

Environment
The environment within the space needs to be similar to normal office conditions. Where it is adjacent to and related to a computer room, steps need to be taken to separate the two environments from one another.

Accommodation
A secure space attached to and overlooking or electronically connected to the facility it is controlling.

Design Considerations
We need to fully understand the business activity related to the facility as well as the physical requirements of the hardware systems being managed. Corporate and customer aspirations need examining to evaluate performance and response expectations.
Statutory Regulations, requirements and guidelines, landlord requirements and BSs, CoPs - see Industry Standards are considered.

All matters need to be financially constrained within the budgets produced during the initial outline design phase. We may examine alternative means of financing certain elements contained within the project.

The build
In the build, the three main considerations are: Security, environment and communication. These are constituents of each and every element involved in the facility’s construction. Needless to say, technology plays an important role in each and we aim to keep up with its advances.
CCS manages the whole project and all those involved in it, on behalf of the client.

Spaces
An operators’ room/bridge depending on its size may require some of the following associated accommodation. For information sheets, contact CCS.

Telecommunications equipment space – microwave or satellite dishes
          Stores
Mechanical and electrical services plant rooms
External M&E plant accommodation – secure areas
          Standby power accommodation – secure

Method
See: How do we do it? To find out how we assemble those elements & activities to tailor and construct a facility to match your requirements – within the timescale and expenditure budgets agreed.

Cost
